03:38 pm - spoilers (but spoiler free!)
why? the name kind of gives it away - it spoils things for people so don't fucking do it, even if you think it's funny, even if you don't really know what happens and are making up a random crap.
Having a voice at the back of your head saying 'does this person really die like x said? they're in a dangerous situation, maybe they will die now!' while you're reading a new book colours the story and changes your focus.

Maybe you think you're better than the people who enjoy reading Harry Potter, or maybe you think they deserve it for reading slower than you... does it make you feel even more superior to take away some of their enjoyment of the book they've been looking forward to?

grr

and no, no one spoiled it for me, I wisely stayed away from the internet until I'd finished it on Saturday evening. grr all the same.

11:54 am - London Olympics logo
Everyone has seen the amazing designer official logo for the Olympic Games:

wtf? it looks like something that a kid would do for a school project.

This site is a goodun: clicky, prettymuch all of the submitted alternatives were better, for the simple reason that they had ANY connection to London or England. Surely there must be SOMETHING about our country that the designer was proud of? If not, why were they designing the logo that our country will be "proudly" displaying to the rest of the world?

They'd have done better to run a Blue Peter competition, at least that wouldn't have cost £400,000.

11:10 am - faith in people = restored
So.
last weekend Dave and I were walking home from a partay at 3AM, there was a girl sitting outside a pub crying... I stopped to check she was ok, turned out that she'd been kicked out of wherever she'd been drinking, had no cash and her card had been rejected so she couldn't get home.

I was slightly skeptical, but wasn't prepared to leave her to walk back to Bradley Stoke on her own, so we got her mobile number and paid for her to have a taxi home. I didn't really expect to hear anything and had prettymuch written off the £15 taxi fare. I was very pleasantly surprised to get an ultra grateful phonecall from her the next morning, with her Dad insisting on speaking to us as well to thank us.

Got a very nice thank-you card with the money in it yesterday, hopefully she'll do the same thing if she finds someone else in a similar situation.

Maybe people don't suck so much afterall.

03:45 pm - omg
Sundays @ 6.05pm from April 29 2007

Comedian and presenter Vic Reeves hosts a brand new six-part series on ITV West later this month.

Exploring his passion for nautical skulduggery as he embarks on a journey of pirate discovery the series reveals the stories of the world’s most notorious pirates, and Vic discovers how these cold blooded rogues murdered and pillaged on the high seas, lured by the promise of great treasures.

Vic Reeves’ Pirates will take viewers on a voyage of pirate discovery as week-by-week each programme tells the story of a West Country pirate including Henry Avery, Woodes Rogers and the infamous Blackbeard.

Revealing Vic’s love of all things pirate - a loves that stems from his childhood – the series has been filmed predominately around Bristol and in the Bristol Channel.

Each programme also looks at some of the social and historical facts surrounding pirates and delves into broader pirates themes including their treasures, trails and bloody deaths.

Kicking off the first programme Vic takes a look at the criminal mastermind Henry Avery, the most successful pirate of all time. In a barbaric crime spree Avery amassed one of the largest hauls in history, but it was his atrocious brutality which shocked the world.

The series will also be screened on The History Channel later this year.

03:30 pm - whoops
long time no write and all that.
it's been a busy few months for me, mostly in a good way!

Snowboarding in January was fantastic, we had 2 weeks in Colorado this year which was brilliant.  I improved loads and so did Dave - until he fell over and broke his arm on the last day, doh!  it made for interesting times on the way home with him only having one arm and the three of us having a rucksack, suitcase and boardbag each!

We have finally bought our house, moved in, unpacked and generally made it start looking like ours rather than the previous owners'.  We didn't hand in the notice on our flat until we had exchanged contracts, so we ended up with 3 weeks overlap which gave us time to decorate and shampoo carpets etc before we moved all our stuff in.  Mum and Dad helped us with spending a weekend decorating which meant that we got all the wallpapering and painting done before there was furniture in the way, hooray!

We eventually won in our battle with Weekes letting agency in Exeter, Dave moved out of the house there in June last year, it has taken until now to get his damage deposit back... they never claimed that he had damaged anything, they just lied about losing his contact details, posting the cheque and doing a bank transfer of the money.  In the end i took a day off work and went to Exeter to pick the bloody thing up, surprisingly the manager wasn't available when I was there, and he was the only one who could have written a cheque to cover my train fare down there, cocks.

I'm currently having a fight with HSBC - they let Dave transfer our house deposit out of our joint account with no ID, only asking him two very basic questions... I wrote to them to suggest that perhaps this wasn't a very secure way of confirming someone's identity and they told me that he'd shown his drivers' licence as ID, and that they have taken details of it which are on the bottom of the form.  Interesting, given that he can't drive and doesn't carry his provisional licence (which is the old, non photo variety and registered at his Mum's address).  So we're going to go and see the manager of the branch, and see this form with licence details.  I was irritated with their security policy before, now that they've lied to me I'm more than a little cross.

Since moving house I've been cycling into work - gone are my days of a 10 minute amble in the mornings.  Still, cycling 7 miles in hilly Bristol is bound to be good for me, assuming i manage to avoid getting squished by a bus.

Hooray for the new series of Doctor Who being on!
